Do I spot a Darwin picture? Yes, I do, because…
…it’s that time of year again – the 12th of February – the birthday of Charles Darwin, the co-discoverer of evolution by natural selection and all-round nice guy naturalist. If Darwin were still alive today, he’d be turning 201 and celebrating the 151st anniversary of the publication of his famous book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.
To find out more about Darwin Day, you can go to its official website – The International Darwin Day Foundation – and even sign a petition asking President Obama to recognise Darwin Day.
In other Darwin-related news, the excellent blog The Dispersal of Darwin (written by Michael D. Barton) came under attack recently from the Discovery Institute after Jonathan West commented on Evolution News & Views that a recent post by Michael, detailing his attempts to move pro-intelligent design books out of the “Science” section of bookstores and into the “Religion” section, was promoting “vandalism” and “censorship”. Because of West’s link-love, ID proponent commenters flooded Michael’s blog post, so I had a bit of fun last night replying to a few things that they said.
Michael has since responded to West with another blog post, which I highly recommend you check out.
Stay safe, everyone! Just because evolutionary theory is one of the best supported scientific theories out there, it doesn’t mean you should be careless and be subject to either natural selection, artificial selection or just plain ol’ nasty genetic drift. Keep those gametes safe – but don’t forget about your somatic cells as well!

Happy Darwin Day to you, and thanks for finding me something to do today.
Reading Michael's blog all those comments was very enlightening and entertaining.
Thanks for the support!
